He said the late Deiga had contributed his quota towards the growth and development of the country and the only way he could be immortalized was to give him a befitting burial and an acceptable successor.
President Mahama said this when he joined hundreds of mourners to pay their last respect to Deiga Kwadzo Dei XI, Paramount chief of the Peki Traditional Area and President of the Peki Traditional Council and Dufia of Peki-Blengo.
He got enlisted into the Gold Coast Army at Keta on September 28, 1955 and trained as an auto mechanic.
The late Deiga later studied at the school of Administration of the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra, which placed him on a better platform to exhibit high-level performance in his realm of operation.
On account of his developmental achievements, the Royal families of Adidieyi-Blengo, Peki, the Peki Traditional Council and the entire citizenry of the traditional area honoured the Deiga by conferring on him two titles, "Kantamanto and Gbedegbleme".
The funeral, which was also attended by dignitaries from the political divide and other traditional rulers from the Volta Region and beyond, witnessed numerous tributes that eulogized him as a hardworking Ghanaian who paid his dues during his lifetime.
President Mahama said it was glorifying to learn that the late paramount chief endeared himself to various governments, traditional councils and the public services areas that he worked in.
He called on all of them to comport themselves during and after the final funeral rites as an honour to him even in his death.
Right Reverend Dr Seth Senyo Agidi, Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church called on people in the area to take heart and pray together for the peaceful settlement of his soul in Heaven.
"We are devastated by his death, but let us take consolation in his performance on earth to make you and me comfortable in our endeavours."
Rt Rev Agidi called on them to follow the laid down regulations in his replacement as paramount chief of the area.
He added:"Let us first seek the kingdom of God and I can tell you that all others will be added to you, by eschewing greed in society for God's goodness to reach us."
