After several public outcry and concerns raised by Ghanaians, the Ministry of Health has suspended the planned Ebola vaccine trials which was to take place at Hohoe in the Volta Region.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, the Minister, Alex Segbefia who is out of the country, suspended the program as a result of the widespread criticism of the exercise by members of the public and several civil society organisations, including the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science and the Volta regional branch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The move to suspend the vaccine trials comes just days after the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) officially gave an international pharmaceutical company the approval to commence Ebola vaccine trials in the country.
According to the FDA, the trials were approved because the development of the vaccine will benefit the country.
But Peter Amewu believes the decision by the government to take the Ebola vaccine trial to the Volta Region is unfair since the government has over the years failed to develop the region, especially that the ruling NDC has always claimed that the region is their ‘world bank’.
“I want to congratulate President Mahama for such an initiative but he must rather take it to the Northern Region [Bole]; not in the Volta Region” John Peter Amenu told Afia Pokua.
Peter Amewu said the Ebola vaccine trial is a deadly activity that should not be tried on humans.

"Ironically, the trial of the VSV Ebov vaccine was rejected by several countriesincluding USA, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Russia, Germany and Canada for its unspecified adverse effects."
The (USA) FDA's definition of a "serious adverse reaction" to a vaccine includes a reaction that leads to:
