Addressing the complaints of NPP, Kofi Adams said on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show that PNDC/NDC is second in terms of energy contribution to the national stock after the first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
“In terms of energy contribution, PNDC/NDC is second after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for his foresight to providing Akosombo hydropower for the country. PNDC/NDC saw that there is the need to increase the capacity as the country was developing,” he asserted.
He was resolute that the NDC saw the need to find alternatives in thermal plants as there was foresight that the country’s population will grow, and the Akosombo hydropower alone will not be enough for the country’s energy need.
He again said that NDC is the only party that has made major investments in power generation as President Mahama has spent fortunes to establish the Atuabo Gas Plant which is currently undergoing production test to supply gas to generate more power for the country.
He implored that the problem with the energy sector of the country has to do more with the focus on hydropower instead of Thermal; thus Akosombo dam is down, and so production is down.
To him, the two power barges which the government has by invested in will supply power to Ghanaians; stating emphatically that the NPP does not have the moral authority to talk about the unfortunate energy crisis because for their 8 years in office they actually did nothing in the energy sector.
Describing the reaction from the NPP, Kofi Adams said “they are only making noise because they don’t have any alternative solution to the energy crises”; adding that “what we are doing today if they had done that and not bought generators during their time in office, we would not be in the problem we find ourselves”.
