The former boss of GREDA, who is also the head of Lakeside Estates, Dr. Alex Tweneboah, is in the grips of the police for allegedly engaging in SIM box fraud.
Dr. Tweneboah and 17 others were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in a seven-month operation undertaken in collaboration with the National Communications Authority and SUBAH Info Solutions Ghana Limited.
The officer who led the operations, ASP Seth Tewornu, who confirmed the arrest to Captain Smart on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, described the activities of the sim box fraudsters as very damaging to the nation, resulting in massive revenue loss to the state. He added that the equipment used by the suspects for the operation is very expensive.
Speaking on the same show on Adom FM, Dr. Boamah said though the former boss of GREDA is one of the suspects, people should stop attributing his flaws to the real estate company he heads of the grouping of real estate companies, and rather concentrate on the personality.
He was optimistic that the security agencies will do more to flush out people who are responsible for those acts, noting that, technology has been helpful in tracking down these culprits.
“We are ever ready to track down people who are found in those acts. Though the former GREDA boss is one of the suspects, there are other suspects as well, and so targeting the company instead of the personality will not be a good idea and so Ghanaians should be mindful of the fact that he has committed the crime and not GREDA,” he noted.
He indicated that government is committed and putting in place measures to totally eradicate the practice.
